Shannon H. Johnson, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who grew up in Columbus, Ohio. She received her bachelors with honors in psychology from Ohio University and earned her doctorate in clinical psychology with a child concentration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio after completing an internship at Advocate/Family Care Network in Chicago where she worked with children in foster care. Dr. Johnson has 15 years experience working with children, adolescents, emerging adults, and adults in a variety of settings, including schools, community mental health, and private practice.  

The therapeutic relationship is highly valued and Dr. Johnson provides a calm, empathetic, accepting, and safe environment in order for this relationship to build and grow. Dr. Johnson listens thoughtfully in order to help children, adolescents, adults and families create their own unique goals to help handle complex life stressors and enhance their quality of life. These goals are met through an integrative approach incorporating Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based strategies.  

Dr. Johnson works with children (ages 3-18) who are experiencing anxiety, depression, academic stress/pressure, friendship concerns, low confidence, anger and strong emotional reactions, concerns related to Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), grief, loss, divorce, and life adjustments. Dr. Johnson is particularly skilled at building and maintaining a trusting relationship with adolescents in order to help them feel understood, heard and valued. In addition, Dr. Johnson works with emerging adults as they adjust to college, careers, and living independently. Adults that Dr. Johnson works with often struggle with anxiety, overwhelm, depression, work/life balance, relationship difficulties, and parenting concerns.  

Additionally, Dr. Johnson provides psychological evaluations for children and adolescents ages 6-17 years old. The diagnostic process is individualized to meet the needs of the client. 

 

Dr. Johnson provides warmth and compassion which helps others to feel comfortable, safe and encouraged in their journey toward self-acceptance, personal growth, and wellness.  Dr. Johnson is an active member of the Ohio Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.
